How Old is Your Blog and How Often Do You Write it?

Been writing since October 2009. I generally post 2 or 3 times a week.

What Inspired You to Start Writing Your Blog?

I found myself enthusing to people all the time about meals I'd eaten or products I'd found so thought I may as well write it down. I also enjoy writing and won a national review writing competition when I was younger so it's a creative outlet, showing to myself and others that it's a skill I still have.

Thirdly, it's a useful, evocative record for myself of where I've been and my experiences. Fourthly, a partly unintended consequence has been a real deepening of my food knowledge and becoming part of the online food blogging/tweeting community.

Advice

  • Be very careful choosing the name. You'll be stuck with it and it's how people will know you
  • If you want an international audience, you'll need to review things that are internationally available
  • You can boost hits by posting a link to your review on, e.g. a relevant discussion thread on another site
  • Follow the zeitgeist - you can get massive hits from reviewing something everyone's talking about, e.g. the new restaurant opening
  • Go crazy with your tagging - enter all the keywords you can think of - just brain dump all the words you can think of relating to the topic
