L Robson and Sons Ltd is a 4th generation family business, famous across the UK and the world for oak smoking kippers and salmon. They are in the heart of the tiny fishing village of Craster in Northumberland, and the long stone building of the smokehouse and restaurant dominates a good section of the main street as it has done for over 130 years.
Sadly there have been many changes within the EEC on fish quotas and demands of new hygiene regulations, many of which have taken their toll on the traditional fish smokers. L Robson and Co have managed to survive by embracing many of these changes whilst retaining the original smokehouses and traditional methods.
Thanks to the internet and good transportation links, both the kippers and the smoked salmon can be delivered next day to all parts of the UK.
