Definition: Barbeque as a verb, is cooking on an open fire usually outdoors. The derivative of the word is believed to come from the French - barbe, (beard)and Queue(tail), meaning the cooking of a whole animal from nose to tail, usually on a spit.

Barbeque as a noun is the container used to cook the food on, either with charcoal, wood or using bottled gas. In Australia is is more commonly referred to as a "Barbie".

Barbeque as an adjective is used to describe the style of cooking - barbequed fish, barbequed meat, barbeque vegetables.

In Britain a Barbeque is also written as Barbecue, or more casually as BBQ.
