I have been reviewing restaurants and hotels in Yorkshire for many years, first as Food and Wine Editor at Yorkshire Life Magazine, now for the leading newspaper, The Yorkshire Post.
There are hundreds of good restaurants in Yorkshire, and just like everywhere else,there are some not so good. These are a few of my favorite restaurants and restaurant reviews around Yorkshire, both formal restaurants and pubs serving good food. I have personally visited all of them, many come highly recommended but read what I think and make up your own mind.

In Leeds City Center, Yorkshire, Anthony's Restaurant is a mecca for modern British food. Chef-owner Anthony Flinn trained under chef Ferran Adria at El Bulli in Spain.

The Box Tree is in the pretty market town of Ilkley in West Yorkshire. Chef-owner Simon Gueller gained and has held a Michelin star at the Box Tree since opening there 5 years-ago.

The Burlington is the formal dining room of the Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel. The hotel is situated on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, near Bolton Abbey.

Clocktower Restaurant is found at Rudding Park Country House Hotel on the outskirts of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Head Chef Stephanie Moon is a keen supporter of local foods and currently runs a monthly Food Heroes menu, showcasing local food producers.

In the heart of the lovely town of Whitby there s no better restaurant than Green's. Owners Rob and Emma Green have created a superb restaurant and equally appealling accomodation in a picturesque settings, nestled close to the busy fishing harbour.
Expect not only great seafood, this is Whitby after all, but also for the carnivore Rob seeks put and serves the best of local produce.

A relative newcomer on the Yorkshire dining scene, The Pipe and Glass is rapidly becoming a sought-after venue for good food and service. Owners James and Kate Mackenzie oversee the whole business, James as head chef and Kate, front-of-house.
One of the best-known inns in the UK, the Star at Harome on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, has held a Michelin Star since 2001. There is also a chic hotel, shop/deli selling produce from the inn and in the nearby market town of Helmsley, a butchers shop.
In West Yorkshire, high in the Pennine hills near Huddersfield the Weavers Shed is run by husband and wife team Stephen and Tracy Jackson. Stephen is a renowned Chef and also well-known for his market garden where he grows much of the fresh produce for the restaurant.
Just on the fringes of Yorkshire (actually in North Linclolnshire) Winteringham Fields was once the most famous restaurant in the UK outside of London as holders of 2 Michelin Stars. They may now no longer hold the stars but here you can still find exemplary food and service.
Chef-owner of the Yorke Arms, Frances Atkins is one of the UK's foremost chefs. The pretty restaurant-with-rooms lies in a beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales near Pateley Bridge. The drive there is long and winding but absolutely worth it for the fantastic food, service and ambience.
