To make it easier, alongside many of the most popular Christmas recipes I now have short, snappy videos for you to watch and to make your cooking over the holiday a lot more fun. Enjoy.

Christmas can be such a stressful time for the the host/ess and cook. There seems to be so much to do and often, not enough time. The secret to a Stress Free Christmas is organisation. The great thing about traditional British Christmas recipes is that many can be made well in advance, even up to three months ahead of time - in fact some really do benefit from this time frame.

With this short video I will share with you some of my tips on how to make it easier for you, what you can do ahead of time, and how to get yourself organised when Christmas comes around. The result? A happy relaxed Christmas, with you arriving at the Christmas table relaxed and unfazed and ready to enjoy your time with family and friends.

If there is one Christmas recipe out of the whole repertoire that will benefit from being made well ahead of time, it is the Christmas cake. The cake can be made as early as September, the cake then has time to mature and for the flavours to develop over time. A Christmas cake is also fed with brandy or rum (if you like a boozy cake)over time resulting in a moist, rich cake. Making ahead gives you plenty of time to do this as well.

If you do find yourself making the cake at the last minute, don't worry, with all the goodies in the cake it will still taste amazing even if you bake it on Christmas eve.

And, of course don't forget the cake will need icing/ There's a video on how to do that too!

Another great recipe that will be more than happy to be made ahead of time is the traditional Christmas Pudding. This is a lengthy recipe and takes approx 7 hours to steam, so, making it ahead of time when you are less busy will make a much more relaxed affair. You don't need to wait until Stir it Up Sunday

Once the mincemeat is made then you are all ready to go with the pies. They really are so quick and easy if you make your shortcrust pastry in advance. As the pastry freezes so well and is easy to make in the food processor, make it in large batches and you can quickly defrost every time you feel like making a tray of pies.

6. Brandy Sauce for the Pudding and Pies

There are different sauces you can choose to serve with both the mince pies and the pudding. Traditionally, and I know why as it is so delicious, is a Brandy Butter. I can assure you this is one of the easiest sauces to make, watch the video if you don't believe me.

Ah, the bird. Once the Christmas meat was always a goose but then along came the new-fangled turkey from the New World and the British took it to their heart and it is now the mainstay of the lunch. Cooking a turkey is not as difficult as some make out, watch this video and see how easy it is.
