Clarissa Dixon Wright, once one half of the “Fat Ladies”, published a weighty paperback this year entitled The History of English Food
and the book is just that, a history of our cuisine, warts and all, and makes great reading.
It is all too easy to succumb to celebrity books and lavish recipes but forget what went before. Knowing the roots, history and origins of our food brings an even greater appreciation of our heritage and a solid base from which to move forward.Clarissa's book does this, and more. She takes us from a medieval feast to a modern day farmer's market with much in between.
A cracking good read.
