Guide Review - Book Review
Porters Seasonal Celebrations Cookbook is a wonderful culinary history of feasts, fairs and festivals. It is packed with a superb collection of tempting traditional and contemporary recipes. The book is illustrated through with delightful pen and ink drawings and etchings, though their origin isn't stated anywhere - unless I have missed it.
The book journey's through the year and covers all of the fascinating customs and traditions and linked to festivals and fairs through Britain and Ireland.
The recipes are as simple and straightforward as possible given that some are quite old. Most of the ingredients used are readily available and usefully, the book gives measurements in both metric and American.
I love the book, it is one to dip in and out of, but is too lovely to take into a kitchen and cook from, I would be afraid to spoil it.
