We Love Chips

By February 21, 2014

Follow me on:

That in Britain we love chips is an indisputable fact; thick, thin, with vinegar or ketchup, we devour tons of chips every year . We love them so much it is even National Chip Week this week.

Chips make up 50% of one of our national dishes with 255 million portions of fish and chips sold every year.

Debate will always rage over which is the best way to cook them. As a northern girl I was brought up on chips cooked in beef fat and they are still my favorites. The health police tell us that chips cooked in oil are 'better for us" but what about the taste I ask?

 The Best Chip Recipe

I can hardly walk past a fish and chip shop without being tempted in by the delicious smell, and scientists at Leeds University have found that the appeal of their smell could actually be down to the range of different aromas chips contain including butterscotch, cocoa, onion, cheese and would you believe... ironing boards. Strange, can't say I have you ever been tempted by the smell of ironing board?

Whatever their appeal, long may the British love affair with chips reign.
