With so much emphasis on food and Christmas and shopping, the drinks are often the last to be thought about. No worries though. Here's a handy look at drinks for the Christmas and New Year period.

No British Christmas is complete without a bottle of favourite at Christmas - Port. It has been synonymous with Christmas for centuries and for some it is the only time of year it is drunk, though goodness knows why, it is such a great tipple on its own or with food.

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas of course without a drop of Champagne and you can see all you need to know about choosing and serving bubbles here.

If you don't know what wines to drink with Christmas food, then Stacy Slinkard, About.com's guide to wine has a great feature on Pairing Wines with Christmas Dinner. Plus, if cocktails tempt you, there's a yummy array of cocktail recipes for the holidays from Colleen Graham, Cocktails.
