There's Still Time for Pickling Onions - Just

By November 9, 2013

There is just about enough time to have pickled onions ready for Christmas if you get cracking right now.

Pickled onions are a national treasure - everyone loves them. They are eaten with fish and chips, on a Ploughman's Lunch, pies, and many other savoury dishes. There are hundreds of commercial varieties but nothing beats a jar of homemade pickled onions. While busy preparing the onions, this is also a good time to make piccalilli, equally great for the Boxing Day table, and delicious any time of year.

Where did you get the onions?
My green grocer sold them loose and they were fantastic, now they have closed down. Supermarkets sell them in silly little bags that don’t seem all that fresh.
I need probably 15kg – 20kg as everyone loves them.

Hi Chris
Have just seen this. I do get them from a greengrocer, correct, supermarkets are not good at large amounts though Morrisons can be quite helpful.
