It was so exciting to find the first Yorkshire Forced rhubarb in the shops last week. With all the Christmas cooking I didn't have time to buy or cook any but I certainly shall now.
Delicate, slender stems of early Rhubarb appearing in the shops is always a cause for celebration because it means spring is on the way. How cheering the vibrant pink colour is on a grey day, and so delicious too.Yorkshire in the north of England grows the best rhubarb in the Rhubarb Triangle of Wakefield, Leeds and Bradford.
Some of the best recipes for rhubarb are "nursery-food" such as Rhubarb Crumble served with, of course, custard. But Rhubarb is more versatile than just a comfort pudding, it appears across the menu alongside not just puddings but happily with fish, meat, as a wine, vodka. . . . you get the picture.
