I can't believe that tonight is the final of the Great British Bake Off, one of the best cookery programmes on TV right now. The programme's success comes on the back of the resurgence of interest in baking in recent years (not the other way round as some think) and it is remarkable that tonight's final is three men; no longer is baking the domain of women, thank goodness.
There have been many challenges along the way in this series and some I think even hardened professionals would have struggled with. I have always been intrigued at the competition around the making of the Victoria Sponge which is ferocious, as the making of a light, flavoursome cake is considered the proof of a being a "good baker. There are many challenges to being a baker and the Victoria Sponge is only one, but it's a good starting place. Do have any tips for a beginner?
